Wild Turkey

One of the things that surprised me the most when I moved to New Jersey was all the wildlife. In our yard and in our property outside the fence, we've seen the following creatures:

  • Squirrels
  • Rabbits
  • Skunks
  • Raccoons
  • Porcupines
  • Turtles
  • Frogs
  • Snakes
  • Hawks
  • Wild Turkeys
  • Foxes
  • Deer

When we were driving to LaGuardia on Saturday, I saw a wild turkey on the side of the Palisades Parkway. I tried to point it out to Reagan, but she didn't look fast enough and she missed it. In fact, about two miles later (at 60 MPH), she was still looking for it out the window and saying, "I don't see it, Mama."
So today, just before I picked up Reagan from preschool, I was driving on Old Tappan Road and I saw another wild turkey running down the road! I just had to take a picture of it to show Reagan ... of course, I had my camera right there next to me in my purse and I was stopped at a red light. I quickly turned on the camera, leaned out the window and shot these two pictures:

After I downloaded the two pictures above, I cropped them so you could see the turkey better.

I realize this is an odd post, but I thought my family and friends in Utah might like to see what a wild turkey looks like. In fact, I was on the phone with my sister Camille on Saturday when I saw the first one and she thought it was so bizarre that I'd just seen a wild turkey! So Camille, here's what one looks like! By the way, a couple years ago, one of these flew into our backyard. I couldn't believe how big it was and I also couldn't believe that it could fly!
