I gave Reagan and Avery a bath tonight and witnessed such a sweet moment that I just have to document. I gave Avery a bath first and she layed on the floor of the bathroom while I bathed Reagan. When Reagan got out of the tub, she insisted on laying right next to Avery. The floor mat where Avery was laying was not very big, so Reagan snuggled up closely to her little sister. Avery turned her head toward Reagan and started smiling and giggling, which caused Reagan to do the same. As I watched them laying there on their backs, heads turned in toward each other with huge grins on their faces, I was dying that I didn't have my camera with me at that very moment, for the moment was absolutely precious.
Just when I thought they couldn't be any sweeter, Reagan broke into a song. She serenaded her little sister with one of her favorites, "You Are My Sunshine." Listening to my 2-year old sing to my 5-month old was music to my ears, especially when she changed the ending of the song ... instead of singing, "please don't take my sunshine away," she sang, "please don't take my Avery away." My heart melted. Reagan has been SO amazing with her little sister. In the last 5 months, she has always treated her with love and kindness, often giving her kisses for no reason at all. It has brought me such joy to watch her interact with Avery, especially because it is obvious that Avery ADORES Reagan. Avery watches her big sister intently, following her as she moves around the room, and smiling at her every time she comes near. I am so lucky to have such incredible little girls.
Once they were dressed in their pajamas, John came upstairs to read books to Reagan and I told him how she'd changed the ending of the song. He told me that he always puts Reagan's name in the song when he sings it to her, so I guess that's the reason she thought to put Avery's name in it tonight.
