Avery's Christening

Avery with her parents and her godparents

We had Avery's christening on Friday (2-8-08) in a small private service at St. Pius X Parish in Old Tappan. Father Patrick was the same priest who handled Reagan's christening two years ago and he was wonderful. He understood our situation and even though I'm not Catholic, he made sure I was a part of the ceremony. We asked John's cousin Jose (also known as Pepito) to be Avery's Godfather and John's cousin Nelly to be her Godmother. Nelly lives in Fort Myers, Florida so she and her husband Loo flew up for the weekend with their beautiful daughters Kialie (6) and Kalani (5). Immediately following the christening, we went to a nearby restaurant for dinner ... it was a very enjoyable evening with John's family! Here are lots of pictures from the event, since I had a hard time narrowing down my favorites.

The Baptism

The reason we were all smiling in the two pictures above is because Avery broke into the biggest grin when the priest poured the water over her head! Since she was so happy and content, I assumed the water was nice and warm, like bath water. When her little hair bow fell out and sunk to the bottom of the baptismal font, Nelly offered to reach in and retrieve it ... she was shocked when her skin hit the water, for it was ICE COLD! Nelly couldn't believe that Avery had been all smiles while the frigid water was poured over her head several times. I have a very easy-going little girl :)

I went back to my pictures from Reagan's christening and since I didn't have a blog back then, I figured I might as well post some pictures from hers as well. Her christening took place on February 11th, 2006. It was supposed to be on the 12th, but a huge snow storm was coming that day, so the priest (Father Patrick) arranged a private service for us on the 11th in order to beat the storm.
